Welcome to Wood Gormley Elementary School, one of the top-performing elementary schools in New Mexico! The school serves students in grades K-6 and supports all learners, depending on their individual learning needs. Of the approximate 380 enrolled students, 10 percent of the students are identified for gifted services and 7 percent are identified for resource services.

Wood Gormley Elementary School has been student-centered throughout its history to provide every student a high-quality education and multiple opportunities to meet or exceed challenging grade-level math and reading standards. In a safe, caring and inclusive environment, through our community’s collective efforts, we expect student readiness for the next grade, careers and college.

The core values that unite our community of teachers, staff, students and parents include that a high-quality education is a fundamental right of every student, teaching and learning is at the core of our work and parents/guardians are our partners. All members of the Wood Gormley Community are responsible for the academic and social-emotional growth of our students and we work each and every day to support students in their learning. Each student at Wood Gormley is an individual. We strive to meet our students where they are and to capitalize on their strengths in order to enhance their learning experiences.

Our students enjoy daily art, library, music and/or band classes and a variety of extracurricular activities. Parents are an integral part of our community and play a large role in the school’s success. This includes being named in 2017 as a prestigious Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education, affirming the hard work of students, educators, families and the community in creating a safe and welcoming school where students master challenging content.

Wood Gormley students can engage in a variety of after-school activities including grade-level tutoring, yoga, Technology Club, Outdoor Club, Chess Club and Art Club.

Students participate in girls and boys basketball, First Serve Tennis Program, swim team and cheer squad. Our students also have the opportunity to compete in the Scripps National Spelling Bee and the RoboRave technology competition. We are a Computer Science Ready-25 school, making plans for a Maker’s Space to use schoolwide. We utilize our outdoor garden and outdoor spaces to enhance learning in the natural world, integrating science, math, language arts and social studies.

We offer an after-care program until 5:30 p.m. from Monday through Friday.

The Parent/Teacher Club (PTC) is actively involved in supporting the students, raising approximately $80,000 per year to fund additional staffing and purchase resources for teachers.

A few of the special events held throughout the school year include Movie Night, Fall Festival, Art Night, Panther Run and music and band performances, field day and Silent Auction Night.

Wood Gormley is one of SFPS’ six elementary schools in downtown/near north Santa Fe.
